Blushing Berry Citrus Float Punch
Overview

With its sweet but tart flavor and slushy texture, this float is a big hit with my family and friends, who know it as “Christmas Punch.” With the scoop of vanilla ice cream to mellow it out and add a little creamy flavor, it always seems to hit the spot.

Flavor Notes
  • High Notes: Lemon, Lime, and Orange juice
  • Mid Notes: Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Deep Notes: Nothing, but I’m up for suggestions! 😉

Grapes, lemons, strawberries, and an ice cream scoop surround the base of the goblet, which is standing atop a cutting board. The cutting board is sitting on a black background.

Backstory

Last December, I was listening to Smart Money Happy Hour (shout out to Rachel and George!) and they mentioned pomegranate as an ingredient in one of the drinks they were trying. All their talk had me in the mood for punch.

Several years ago, my mom made a punch that was basically Hawaiian Punch, lemonade concentrate, and orange juice concentrate. I called it “liquid SweeTART punch,” and while the kid in me absolutely loved it, I wanted something that felt a little more adult-ish. Some complexity in texture and flavor.

I absolutely love frozen drinks. Doesn’t matter if it’s July or January, if it’s frozen, count me in.

I quit drinking carbonated drinks when I was a kid, and I don’t do alcohol, so finding a frozen drink recipe that is non-alcoholic and non-carbonated was almost impossible. As I’m prone to do, I just went to the store and started looking. That can be dangerous for the wallet, but it’s my default.

Anyway, after a little experimenting, I came up with this one. I brought it to mom and dad’s for our family Christmas, and it was an instant hit. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Ingredients

Units Scale
For Frozen Drink
  • 1 tablespoon frozen limeade concentrate
  • 1 tablespoon frozen lemonade concentrate
  • 2 tablespoons frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 1/2 cup red grape juice
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 5 frozen strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons water
For Serving and Garnishing
  • 1/2 cup of pomegranate juice
  • 2 small scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • a little water for sugaring the rim
  • a little granulated sugar for the rim

Instructions

To make the frozen portion:

  1. In a high-powered blender, add all ingredients listed for the frozen drink. Run blender on high until mixture is smooth.

To assemble the drink:

  1. Pour a little water in a saucer. Turn each saucer upside down and set in the saucer of water, ensuring the entire top 1/4 inch or so of the rim gets wet.
  2. In a dry saucer, add the granulated sugar. Dip the rim of each goblet in the sugar, rotating as necessary to ensure full coverage.
  3. Carefully pour half of the frozen drink into each goblet until it’s about 3/4 full, avoiding the rim. Gently pour half of the pomegranate juice on top of each drink. Depending on the consistency of your frozen mixture, the juice may sink to the bottom or form a layer on top.
  4. Add a small scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of each. Garnish as desired and serve immediately.
